General Introduction

 

 

A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is an online directory/listing of individuals   (“members”) who have joined A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network for the sole  purpose of opening their homes to one another through hospitality. The mission of A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is to (1)  glorify God through facilitating hospitality by providing a directory of Christian households who have voluntarily joined  A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network for the sole purpose of opening their homes to one another through hospitality (a “conversational dinner” or “an overnight stay of 1-2 nights); (2) provide an economical option for travel; and (3)encourage the practice of hospitality through inspirational and educational resources. The network is not to be use for fundraising purposes. The following outlines the rules or “terms of use” for using or joining A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network. By clicking, “I agree to terms of use”,  you agree to abide by the terms. A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network may choose to change its “terms of use” from time to time, at their sole discretion. Your continuing to use A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network’s website will constitute your assent to all such changes;  therefore, it is advisable to visit the “terms of use” section of our website from time to time to review the most recent “terms of use”.

                                                        
Reliability of Information

  

Membership Profiles: To become a member of A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network, and subsequently, to use its network, you will be required to complete a registration process that includes a member household profile. By agreeing to the terms of use, you are     required to provide current and accurate information on said profile. A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network cannot and will not verify or guarantee the authenticity of information provided by its members.

   

                                                              Misrepresentation of Information:  

 

A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is not liable for any misinformation provided us by our members. Furthermore, A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is not responsible for nor is it liable for any agreement voluntarily agreed upon by its members. A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is solely responsible for making listings available to members and encouraging the practice of hospitality through inspirational and educational  resources. A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is not liable for any misinformation or misrepresentation provided by its members.

                                                 

                                                 Rights of Refusal and Termination

 

In that A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is a voluntary association, members are in no way obligated to accept requests from other members at any time. Although encouraged to prayerfully consider each request, members are free to refuse requests at their sole discretion. In addition, A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network reserves the right to refuse membership and/or terminate memberships at its sole discretion. Likewise, A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network reserves the right to remove or delete any content (verbal or photographic) that it finds objectionable with or without notice, for any or for no reason and without liability to you.

In that A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network is an online directory, email and text are the sole conduits for communication. In joining A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network, members commit to opening all emails received from ACWHN. We intentionally try to limit our updates to every 1-4 months; therefore, the greatest likelihood is that any emails received are from another member sending a request. Although members are under no obligation to accept guests at any time, it is expected that they will open all correspondence and respond to requests in a timely manner.

                                                                 
  Renewals

 

Renewals:    Near your anniversary date, 1 and 2 year memberships will receive an automatic renewal reminder.  take a few moments to renew, or send us an email asking your membership to be removed from our directory. This will help keep our directories current. (Missionaries and charter members need not renew as their memberships are permanent, but are requested to keep profiles updated). Of course, we HOPE YOU WILL STAY!!!

                                                                      Liability

 

A CANDLE IN THE WINDOW HOSPITALITY NETWORK  IS A VOLUNTARY ASSOCIATION. A CANDLE IN THE WINDOW HOSPITALITY NETWORK AND ITS OWNER ASSUME NO LIABILITY FOR ANY  DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM THE USE OF OR THE INABILITY TO USE OUR WEBSITE. YOU AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF THE A CANDLE IN THE WINDOW HOSPITALITY  NETWORK WEBSITE IS SOLEY AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION/RISK.  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL A CANDLE IN THE WINDOW HOSPITALITY NETWORK OR ITS OWNER BE  LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO  INJURIES TO PERSON(S) OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND FURTHER INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM A CANDLE IN THE WINDOW HOSPITALITY NETWORK'S NEGLIGENCE. IN ANY EVENT, THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF LIABILITY TO A CANDLE IN THE WINDOW HOSPITALITY NETWORK WILL BE EQUAL TO AND NOT EXCEED THE MEMBERSHIP FEE. A CANDLE IN THE  WINDOW HOSPITALITY NETWORK  DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL GUARANTEES, REGARDING THE  RELIABILITY OF MEMBER PROFILE INFORMATION. (USE OF WEBSITE) YOU AGREE TO USE THE WEBSITE SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE IT WAS INTENDED FOR: TO FACILITATE  HOSPITALITY BETWEEN ITS MEMBERS AND FOR NO OTHER PURPOSE(S).

   

PASSWORD SECURITY:  UPON JOINING, A CANDLE IN THE WINDOW HOSPITALITY NETWORK MEMBERS ARE ASKED TO CREATE A PASSWORD. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THE CONFIDENTIALITY AND SECURITY OF YOUR PASSWORD. YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATION MADE FROM YOUR PROFILE. BY CLICKING “I AGREE TO TERMS OF USE”,  MEMBERS AGREE NOT TO ALLOW ANY OTHER PERSON(S) TO MISREPRESENT THEIR IDENTITY, NOT  TO ATTEMPT TO INTERFERE WITH THE USE OF THE SITE, AND NOT TO ATTEMPT TO INTERFERE WITH THE USE OF THE WEBSITE BY INTRODUCING VIRUSES, WORMS, SOFTWARE, TROJANS OR ANY OTHER SIMILAR HURTFUL CODE. VIOLATION OF SYSTEM OR NETWORK SECURITY MAY RESULT IN CIVIL OR CRIMINAL LIABILITY. YOU AGREE THAT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER TO PROTECT AGAINST DAMAGE WHEN ACCESSING THE “WORLD WIDE WEB”.

 

                                                                 Conflict Resolution


The parties to this agreement are Christians and believe that the Bible commands them to make every effort to live at peace and to resolve disputes with each other in private or within the Christian church (see Matthew 18:15-20; 1 Corinthians 6:1-8). Therefore, the parties agree that any claim or dispute arising from or related to this agreement shall be settled by biblically-based mediation and, if necessary, legally binding arbitration in accordance with the Rules of Procedure for Christian Conciliation of the Institute for Christian Conciliation, a division of Peacemaker® Ministries (complete text of the Rules is available at www.peacemaker.net)
. Judgment upon an arbitration decision may be entered in any court otherwise having jurisdiction. The parties understand that these methods shall be the sole remedy for any controversy or claim arising out of this agreement and expressly waive their right to file a lawsuit in any civil court against one another for such disputes, except to enforce an arbitration decision. In the unlikely event that any conflict is criminal in nature, member is obligated to contact law enforcement directly.

 

                                                                Your Privacy Matters

Your privacy is important to us. Contact information (names, address, phone numbers) are provided to A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network upon joining for administrative purposes and are NOT posted to our website. Members/ Profiles are listed by Member identification number (#) and city/state/country in Public Directory which is available to members and non-members. A much more detailed profile is available securely to members only; however, even the private directory will continue to list members by Member identification number (#) and city/state/country. Release of private information is only made voluntarily between members in the manner they so choose after initial contact has been made via an email generated from A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network. After initial contact on the website, members may then contact one another privately. Again, A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network does not guarantee authenticity of its members profiles. Members are encouraged to communicate with potential host to determine suitability.


                                                       Disclosure of Information


 
Available records, account information, and all data stored on our servers may be accessed by our system administrators. In the event that we are required by law (including a court order) to disclose the information you submit, we will provide you with notice (unless we are prohibited)   that a request for your information has been made so that you may object to the disclosure. We will send this notice by email to the address you have given us. If you do not challenge the disclosure request yourself, we may be legally required to turn over your information.       

 

                                                            Payment Information

All online payments are made to A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network securely  through PayPal. A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network does not have access to to  member’s financial information. All payments made in person or by USPS to A Candle in the Window Hospitality Network , by cash, check, or money order will be deposited in a timely manner.
